Superintendent's Welcome!

Welcome to our District!

August 14, 2019

Dear Parent/Guardians:

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Winters Joint Unified School District.  I am certain that this will be “The Best Year, Yet.”  We are excited to have everyone back for the new year, and we welcome all the new students, families, and staff to our school community.

This year is certain to bring excitement and much success.

Some highlights for the start of the year are:

  • Ten new classrooms at Winters High School and the soon to open Student Union/Cafeteria

  • Move of third grade from Waggoner to Rominger

  • Bus routes to safely move students across Hwy 128/Grant (with this addition comes the removal of crossing guards on 128/Grant)

  • The 2nd full year of the Career Readiness Academy at Wolfskill

  • A counselor/therapist at each site

As I embark on my 5th year as superintendent of this district, I want you to know that the first priority is to create a safe environment in which our students can learn and grow.  School safety is a top priority for everyone involved in educating our students. We put great efforts towards planning, preparing, and collaborating with local officials to create safe environments for all.

At Winters Joint Unified School District, it is our mission to provide a quality education for all of our students.  What drives us is our vision of “Inspiring and Cultivating Pathways to Success.” As we commit to a quality education it is important to engage the entire educational community. We hope that all parents and families will join us in collaboration to help us achieve our mission and vision.

Estimados padres / tutores:

SSDA Today article - Growing the Future in Winters

Recently, the Small School District's Association (SSDA) featured Winters JUSD in their Fall/Winter 2017 edition of "SSDA Today."  Below an excerpt of the article. Please click on the link below to see the article in its entirety.

In just a few short years, the Winters Joint Unified School District has embraced a new vision for student success and launched a series of initiatives designed to prepare students to be future-ready.

For the Winters JUSD, our motto says it all.  Simply put, we are “Rooted in Excellence.”  As a small school district, located in the heart of California’s Central Valley, Winters is a farming community and being “rooted” takes on special significance.

In Winters, we celebrate and recognize our community roots. The adults in our town go above and beyond to support our youth, and so do the staff members in the Winters Joint Unified School District.  As it is in many small districts, every staff member knows every student and every school plays a vital role in connecting the community.

Over the past few years, amidst much change in education, it has been important for us in the Winters JUSD to return to our roots as we set a focus for the future.  In reflecting on the work we have done, and where we still want to go, the following principles have guided our efforts in implementing our Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) and other district initiatives.

1. Have a Clear Vision

2. Align All Goals

3. Embrace a Mindset for Growth

4. Be Strengths-based

Like the farmers in our community, we’ve cultivated the soil, planted the seeds, and are eagerly awaiting harvest. For the students and staff in the Winters Joint Unified School District, there is daily excitement as we work together to grow the future.
