Welcome to Winters Independent Study

The Winters Joint Unified School District Independent STudy Program is a voluntary K-12 educational alternative to placement in district schools. The Independent Study Program operates as an extension of each school in the district. Independent Study students meet once a week with an Independent Study teacher who assigns new materials and collects/reviews the previous week's work. All Independent Study students are required to adhere to district promotion/retention criteria and follow the district calendar. High school students who complete an Independent Study designated course of study and pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) graduate with a diploma from the school under which they were enrolled- either Winters High School or Wolfskill (Continuation) High School. To be a good fit for Independent Study, a high school student should have the initiative to work on his or her own with just weekly monitoring and assistance by a teacher and the self discipline to set a schedule for getting the work done. Younger students should have both initiative and the strong support and assistance of their parents or guardian.

For participation requirements and enrollment information, contact Matt Moran, Teacher in Charge (mmoran@wintersjusd.org) or Joyce Snyder, Secretary (jsnyder@wintersjusd.org) at the John Clayton Education Center, 200 Baker Street, Winters, CA 95694, (530) 795-6154.
