Thank you for your interest in teaching in the Winters Joint Unified School District. The Winters School District serves approximately 1,500 students in grades K-12. Our students are from the community of Winters and surrounding rural areas in Yolo County and a small northern portion of Solano County. Our staff and school enjoy strong community support. We have a long-standing tradition of low class size and working together to provide a quality education for each and every one of our students. One of our most important responsibilities in the field of education is the recruitment and selection of  highly qualified, competent teachers. We believe the teacher is the key person to initiate and develop student learning and growth. We want the very best teachers for our students. Included for your review is a brief description of the selection process used by the Winters Joint Unified School District.

  • The application process begins with the completion of an application via
    • Application form 
    • Letter of Introduction
    • Current Resume
    • Three Letters of Reference
    • Copies of transcripts, if available
    • Copies of credentials, if available
  • Telephone Screening Questions:
    • Selected applicants are interviewed by telephone using a series of questions (less than 10) to determine eligibility
  • Phase I Interview:
    • Selected applicants participate in an initial interview. The interview is comprised of either a short demonstration lesson or a written task followed by an interview. The interview will consist of  15-25 questions that are focused on a specific assignment at a school site.   The interview usually lasts about one hour in length.
  • Phase II Interview:
    • Selected finalists will participate in an interview conducted by the Superintendent and the site Principal/Supervisor

Testing Information

Would you like to work in our classrooms as an instructional aide?

Take our proficiency test today!  The proficiency test is not necessary for holders of either an AA or a BA/BS from an accredited college and/or university.  You must be able to provide official transcripts in order to be exempt from taking the proficiency test.  


The proficiency test consists of reading, writing and mathematics questions through the 9th grade level (i.e. Algebra).  The test takes approximately one to two hours in length and is available by appointment only.  Please call 530-795-6100 ext. 8001 to schedule your test date today!
